Let me preface this by saying I’m a big fan of Duran Duran. Ever since I was nine, the eighties version of the fab five ruled my cassette tape recorder as well as my bedroom walls. I recall when Sing Blue Silver came out in 1985 and my mother, who begrudgingly agreed to watch it with me, claimed that Andy Taylor looked high because his eyes were glassy. I argued and cried that they were good guys and that they’d NEVER do any drugs. In my eyes, alcohol was okay because I’d seen my parents drink it after a hard days’ work, but no way could they be into drugs.
An interview with Norway’s progressive metal band Leprous. The entire band was kind enough to sit down with FourteenG, on their stop in Chicago. Just part of a mini North American tour, right off the heels of their slot on this year’s ProgPower. Dare we call them avant garde but as their album covers suggest, each is a bottled time capsule of their progression as seasoned musicians. So, why haven’t we heard more of them?! Maybe after this little stint of the U.S., the secret will be out and they won’t be our underground cult favorite anymore. Wait… maybe that’s a good thing! Without further ado, here’s a fun “getting to know you” piece of prog’s unlikely likely rock stars.
Since I’m not the hugest Queens fan, I asked my husband Adam, to be a guest writer on this review. Here are his thoughts!
After many failed attempts to see my favorite band, I finally got a chance to see them two nights ago at the Riverside Theatre in Milwaukee. Unfortunately, due to the show in Chi being sold out, we had to make the trip and hey, who doesn’t like an excuse to leave town, right?
FourteenG, in its history, has witnessed some pretty bizarre happenings in the past but Watain’s performance at the Bottom Lounge in Chicago has been inducted into the “Top 10 Best Metal Shows Ever” category. House photog, Erika Kristen, caught the charismatic singer Erik Danielsson during “ritual”.
NOTE: Not professional grade meant for fan-fair onl
FourteenG attempted to have a little vacation and actually ENJOY a show and not COVER one. However, we still couldn’t resist bringing you a snippet from Ghost’s off dates (with Skeletonwitch as support) before their trek on the “Hail To The King” with Avenged Sevenfold & Deftones. Thank Ghost’s congregation (and Harem 😉 for the popular demand for videos. Ert välkomnande.
Summer Slaughter has showcased some of the best modern metal since its annual jaunt across the planet in 2007. Just one of SS’s stand out performances of 2013 has to be Periphery. Their formula of fun mathcore is an inkling of where metal is headed. Our Random Fandom entry is of BandHappy.com founder, drummer Matt Halpern. We were forewarned of his intricacies on the drums.
Ok, so NOW we get it!
Matt is bad ass.
We now have full view of Periphery’s all around soon-to-be greatness.
FourteenG joins Papa Emeritus II & The Nameless Ghouls at a performance for the sold out Lollapalooza Aftershow in the famed Double Door in Chicago. The intimate show was packed with a devoted congregation and we wanted to share “the word” with all of you. Enjoy.
Er, Hail Satan! \m/ ~ek
