Review – Opeth At the Riviera Theatre 10/09/16

Going to any live show is a big event, especially when it’s a band you’ve admired and followed for a long time. I’m not overly hard to please, but a lot of acts haven’t lived up to my expectations when they perform. They seem lackadaisical, not interacting with the crowd, or maybe they’re hyped but their music sucks ass. Unfortunately, that’s happened more than I care to remember.

Are Metal Festivals Making a Comeback?

open

Since the days of Ozzfest, metal festivals in some parts of the US are a rarity. We can’t really count Lollapalooza or Riot Fest since it encompasses every genre. There is still Maryland Death Fest, but that’s on the east coast. In fact, I’ve noticed many of the fests either happen on the East or West coasts, leaving fans here in the Midwest with very little. For years I’ve wondered why, because the local metal community would definitely support a show completely dedicated to heavy music. Could it be the money it takes to produce such a show, the issues it presents like security, the venue, and what it would take to get enough heavy hitters on the bill to make such a festival a draw for loyal metal fans? All these are valid points, but I believe given more thought, a major fest would be successful here. Thankfully someone had the forethought to give it a try and create Open Air. The Devil’s Rejects

It was February 6th 2011 at the Bottom Lounge in Chicago. Hangin’ with the usual suspects. Good times were afoot. Libations were had. Getting ready to sway to whatever DevilDriver was about to spew forth. We take our spot, stage right, next to the speakers. It begins…

“Um, where the fuck is Miller?”

Jonathan Miller, the bassist. The dude we meet on DD’s first tour in the early 2ks. That dude who helped lay down that rhythmic foundation since the beginning of their conception. That full steam ahead, 5-ton truck, ready to assault your ear cavity. The one who didn’t treat us women in the industry like a piece of ass in shoes?! Yeah, that dude. He was gone.

Queens of the Stone Age – Riverside Theatre Milwaukee Wisconsin 5/7/14

Since I’m not the hugest Queens fan, I asked my husband Adam, to be a guest writer on this review. Here are his thoughts!

After many failed attempts to see my favorite band, I finally got a chance to see them two nights ago at the Riverside Theatre in Milwaukee. Unfortunately, due to the show in Chi being sold out, we had to make the trip and hey, who doesn’t like an excuse to leave town, right?

Sevendust/Coal Chamber/Lacuna Coil/Candlelight Red at MOJOES JOLIET

sevendust

Wait? Does that look like a bill from the late nineties? Yes it  does but it isn’t. Instead, it was the lineup at Mojoes in Joliet  on Tuesday April 9th. Actually, when I first saw this bill I said, what, Sevendust and Coal Chamber touring together? I thought Armageddon was just around the corner but apparently, the bands have put aside all differences to join forces on a nice sized tour, playing nearly sold out shows.
